Hi everyone,
So I was updating the point standings for GT Challenge just awhile ago, and I noticed a massive gap between the top three and the rest of the field. The top three are in the 100s with RaZoR edging closer towards 200, and then you have fourth-placed Paul Todd who has 60 points.
Between third and fourth, the difference in points is 122. All respect given, the points on the table are well-earned and well-deserved by you guys, but I feel that a little change must be made to level the field. Nothing too ridiculous, don't worry. Here are my suggestions:
I. Open up points-scoring positions
Right now, only first to fifth are able to score points. If we open up points-scoring positions to say eighth or tenth, the field will be able to gain points much more easily.

Position | Points |
1st | 25 |
2nd | 18 |
3rd | 15 |
4th | 12 |
5th | 10 |
6th | 8 |
7th | 6 |
8th | 4 |
9th | 2 |
10th | 1 |
With this points system, people who aren't that fast that often finish outside of top five will be able to atleast earn some points for finishing the race. DNFs do not earn any points even if you DNF in e.g. 7th. This keeps the championship a little more alive because you don't have a massive gap as you go down the standings. Also, it motivates you to finish a race without any incidents because you get to earn more points as compared to last time, and you actually get to earn points when you finish outside of top five!
II. Split point standings
Something I don't really recommend. As the title suggests, you split the field into two point standings. Let's say we are going to race the V8 Supercars next year, so we will have two point standings: V8A and V8B. V8A is for the faster drivers and V8B is for the not-so-fast drivers. This will probably allow two even fields of drivers as the faster ones will be fighting each other for points and not with the not-so-fast ones. At the end of each season, you have a champion from each category, and maybe the champion for V8B will swap places with the last-placed V8A finisher. Confusing, yes.
Sooooooooooooooooo, that's all I have to suggest. I would choose the first option over the second one. Discuss below and tell us what you think -- whether the suggestions are stupid or practical. Add your suggestions as well if you have one!
